There be dragons: A film on Saint Josemaria Escriva

For a few weeks, the suburbs of Buenos Aires have turned into 1936 Madrid. Roland Joffe, director of The Mission, strolls through bullet-proof trucks, militias and Spanish flags, currently working on the production of There be dragons, a film based on the life of Saint Josemaria Escriva of Balaguer.

Charlie Cox, who starred in the movie Stardust, plays Escriva in the new film, and will be joined by Geraldine Chaplin and Rodrigo Santoro.

The movie tells the story of a journalist thats investigating the life of his dying father and discovers the lifelong friendship he had with the founder of Opus Dei, from his childhood until the years of the Spanish civil war.

The film was funded by private investors from the United States and Spain. Opus Dei did not give money toward the film.

According to the director, its not meant to be a movie about Josemaria Escriva, but about things people do to find meaning in life.

Its a story about everyday heroes and saints that that highlights the value of friendship and forgiveness.

The film is set to debut in 2010.
